Course Overview 

This eight-week online course provides educators with practical strategies to integrate the UNESCO-IBE seven global competences into classroom teaching. Through a combination of interactive sessions, collaborative discussions, and weekly assignments, participants will explore how to cultivate lifelong learning, self-agency, social interaction, and multiliteracy in their students. The final week will be dedicated to reflection, allowing participants to consolidate their learning and share insights gained during the course.

Facilitator


Marla Hunter [Hooper] brings a wealth of experience in educational innovation and curriculum design, with a focus on integrating cultural relevance and technology to enhance learning outcomes. Her expertise extends to working within the International Baccalaureate (IB) setting, both stateside as an instructional coach and internationally, collaborating with teachers and administrators to elevate instructional practices. She has developed frameworks for educators globally to incorporate culturally relevant examples and practices into their curricula, making lessons engaging and accessible. As a global educator and professor, Marla has facilitated the implementation of competence-based learning strategies that prepare leaders, educators, students, and organisations for the demands of the 21st century, leveraging digital tools and inclusive pedagogies to foster global competence effectively.

 

Learning Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants will  be able to:

  • Understand the framework of UNESCO-IBE seven global competences.
  • Explore and apply competence-based teaching strategies.
  • Equip students with essential global competences such as self-agency, critical thinking, and multiliteracy.
  • Foster interaction with diverse resources and the global community.
  • Develop practices that support transdisciplinary learning.
  • Reflect on and assess the integration of competence-based learning into their teaching.

Outcome

Upon completion, participants will be fully equipped with strategies to implement UNESCO-IBE seven global competences in their classrooms, creating a rich, student-centered learning environment that fosters essential 21st-century skills. Participants will also receive certification upon completion of all assignments.
